When the Producers of Active Entertainment called us early 2012 asking us if we would make their film’s Mechanical Shark Monster Star the answer of course was “YES!”. What a dream come true for all of us. Ghost Shark’s reign of terror begins where his life ends; seeking revenge on those that killed him! In a bold move by team Ghost Shark they chose to avoid the obvious pitfalls of CG only FX that have devalued all other CG only shark films. Ghost Shark’s FX offer a strong balance between Practical FX work enhanced by CG for highlight. The team wanted a respectful nod to the greatest movie shark of all time as well.
To our understanding our shark is the only movie shark to never once break down and delay a production. Not one single delay. In fact our shark performed so flawlessly that all required scenes were in the can before lunch on day one! This included all wet scenes on location as well as dry for wet work!
Just to run out the rent on the stage facilities the team revisited the script, and invented on the fly, an additional shoot schedule to create additional "side-mission" scenes. New pick-up shots, and a big library of stock footage shots were also rigged and achieved in those two shooting days to strengthen the cache of shark action for editing. These were all scenes initially dropped in pre-production as they were thought impossible to achieve on time and within budget. In other words, Team Shark City Ozark more than delivered on Ghost Shark!
Since then we have provided FX work for several other films for Active Entertainment. We look forward to working with them again, and hope to have our phone ring soon with new opportunities to provide other productions our equally dynamic shark & creature manifestations. What an exciting life!
