For me these ScarFace Brucette Shark sketches were a tremendous personal victory.
I was recovering in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield Missouri at that time. I was confined to bed there with both arms restrained by double IV lines, oxygen and all the other hospital trimmings.

The Chopper sketch was one of the first things that I literally was able to even try to work on after recovering from actually dying 3 times in the back of an ambulance from a cardiac trauma in October of 2009.
Until I found the strength to attempt these sketches, I did not know if I had lost the fine motor-skills for drawing, painting and sculpting that I’d spent over 4 decades sharpening.

To the world these may only be sketches, but back then to me they were the whole world. To me they are still masterpieces of encouragement and victory over a near death experience.
